Jute rope may be cleaned, but avoid wet processes as it is highly hydrophilic and will change its dimensions unfavourably.
You can lightly rub down with a damp cloth, or better cauterize by re-singeing and re-oiling.
If wax gets on the rope, place in a freezer until the worst can be removed, then iron over a thick paper kitchen towel to draw out the wax.
